Principal area of research: Liquid Crystal Elastomers. Unusual mechanics, photo-elasticity, applications to mechanically tuneable photonics, actuation, soft ferro-electrics. Differential geometry to predict light- and heat-induced Gaussian curvature and shell shape evolution from flat, solid sheets with complex director patterns.
