Research
Since the early 1980s when the term 'DNA nanotechnology' was first introduced, there has been a surge of interest in the design of DNA-based materials. My interests lie in the field of DNA nanotechnology, and in describing the assembly of DNA-based configurations like DNA hydrogels. A few of the proposed applications that DNA hydrogels can be used to are: targeted drug delivery, cell culture, and filtering organic compound isomers. I study these materials from a theoretical point of view, and for this purpose I utilise computational tools like molecular dynamics, and statistics. My aim is to gain insight into the way that different structural configurations may alter the final properties of these materials. Moreover, I am interested in examining fictitious arrangements of DNA-based materials so that I can guide experimental research towards the design of novel functional materials.
