Research Interests
I am generally interested in emergent and out of equilibrium phenomena in many body systems, both in
classical statistical mechanics
and in
collective quantum phenomena.
My research topics include:
- the effect of hard constraints in classical and quantum systems (dimer, vertex, and colouring models)
- the role of kinematic constraints, out of equilibrium phenomena, freezing and glassiness
- frustrated magnetism
- entanglement, topological order, quantum information and quantum computing
- photoinduced phases of matter
PhD positions in my group
If you are interested in doing a PhD in my group, please follow the application procedure outlined in the Graduate Admissions web page of the Physics Department, and indicate your preference of supervisor on the form. Depending on the situation, different funding options may be available. Please consult the website for further information about procedures and deadlines.
Postdoctoral fellowships and other opportunities
All postdoc position advertised within TCM are listed here.
If you are looking for postdoc opportunities, here are some links to prestigious fellowships in Cambridge as well as in the UK in general. These fellowships are rather competitive and often require the explicit support of a host institution. If you feel qualified to apply and would like to discuss, please contact me.
-
the Cambridge College Junior Research Fellowships (JRF). Different Colleges advertise them at different times, generally between August and February. Adverts can be found on the University Jobs website, under "College jobs", or you can use a web search engine). Please note that the salaries advertised are typically in addition to free accommodation and meals
-
the Newton International Fellowships (2 years), for non-UK candidates to conduct research in the UK (i.e., UK citizens and people already working / studying / conducting research in the UK are not eligible -- see detailed conditions on the website)
-
the Research Fellowships in Science and Engineering from the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851
-
the Herchel Smith Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Cambridge (up to 3 years)
-
the Leverhume Trust Early Career Fellowship (3 years)
-
the ERC Marie Curie Actions, providing a range of funding options for different career stages, duration, and context
-
the EPSRC fellowships, either
postdoctoral (3 years), or early career (5 years)
-
the Royal Society schemes, in particular the University Research Fellowship (5 years)
-
the Starting Grants of the European Research Council (up to 5 years)
